The one done with animatronics and Pupptry, now this was an impressive pilot for the Teddy Ruxpin TV Show.
It can be seen on Youtube! I saw this when i first came out on ABC back in 1986 at age 5 and it rocked.

I don't suggest watching it on YouTube... it's best seen in it's full quality version. There are several VHS copies around... I am at the beginning stages of a campaign to get it released on DVD, at which point hopefully You Tube will be served with cease & decist to take the clips down.

I remember that movie being in our local Blockbuster as a kid in New Jersey. It's also in a small video store here in the middle of nowhere. The store actually has quite a few Teddy Ruxpin videos. If it ever goes under, I would offer to buy them.

I have it on VHS and transferred it to DVD to conserve it... that and the fact I don't have a VHS player anymore. Memories of when I was four in the CFB Valcartier movie theatre watching this for the first time in double header with The Enchanted Flute.

I bought the DVD off of Ebay and transferred it to a DVD.
I absolutely love the remixed "Come Dream With Me Tonight" at the beginning.

I LOVE the baby Teddy in that scene.
And I loved seeing the Rillonian homestead. That place was so mysterious to me. I always imagined what it must've been like for Teddy and Grubby to find the map of Grundo in that trunk there. Somewhere in a dusty attic, perhaps left over from one of Burl's exploits into Grundo...
I don't know why...but the girl playing Leota always freaked me out...I'm not sure why. She always seemed out of place with all the puppets and costumed actors.
I saw this video long after I'd been watching the Treasure of Grundo story arc for years...and it was great to see all my favorite characters realized in live action. My only regret (or perhaps the film's saving grace) is that there is no mention of the Grunges, similar to "The Missing Princess" book and tape set. It would've been cool to see the Iron Warrior wreaking havoc on the Grunge Village. Although with that film's budget, it would probably have looked horrible in execution.

I agree the "Iron Warrior" would have been awesome.

But it was awesome to see Louie in this one, he's the only Grunge to appear and Will Ryan was just right for his voice. Leoata was played by the actress who does Minnie Mouse's voice Russi Taylor.
Baby Teddy does look adorable.

Leeota never seemed to quite fit well in the live-action. I mean, they could have cut her out completely and the story would hve still progressed nicely. A wood Sprite is always easier to do in cartoon that in live-action.

Most agree but with today's CGI, anything is possible.

Happy to know that I wasn't the only one enamored with baby Teddy.
While the movie was extremely well done for what they had, I'm rather glad Ken decided to go down the animation route. I don't think the technology was far enough along to make a full live action series.

I was. I mean, look at the TMNT live action serioes they did in the early 2000s. They managed to get an entire season with actors in suits.
It might not have gotten the same magic as the animated series did though. Through animation a story can go a little farther in terms of scenes and what is actually shown for the story. In live action, back then, most of it would have had to be left to the imagination or using some trickery of the camera.
Today... maybe not the series. A movie, definitely since there is a larger pool of costume actors available. Not to mention the budgets are better for what you need for a movie. A series, I could see a CGI, but my preference for AdvRux would be regular animation again. CGI does end up being cheaper than drawings though in terms of time and needed artists.
I don't know, feverish ramblings of someone recovering from H1N1.

The budget for a series in the format of the special would've been astronomical.
I agree that Ken and Co. were able to tell a much grander story on a larger scale with traditional animation than they ever could've told with the puppets and costumed actors.
I doubt the format of the special would've gotten past Episode 10.

One major problem I noticed about the costumes and puppets was the lack of emotion. The costumes could hardly emote at all.
