I got the WCT Teddy today. I am very impressed on the job they did. People complain how the new teddy is ugly and horrible; but it they didn't modernize him a little bit, he wouldn't do well on the market. By the way, they are doing well on the market already. QVC sold 1,000 units in 10 minutes flat. First of all, the eyes are 3D. They are pretty cool because there are a lot more animations than the display one (at toy fair). When he is off, the eyes are completely black. I don't like it. They could have added eyelids that only went up when he was on, and went down when he was off. WCT's 'solution' to this is an 'eye mask' you put on teddy's eyes. I really like the eye mask; it looks really cute on teddy When you turn him on he says, "Hi! My name is Teddy Ruxpin. Can you and I be friends?". He continues to do random eye animations until you select a story. The thing I don't like is there is no tell what the story is when you select it. They have completely removed Come And Discover (The World With Me) from The Airship, but given us back many new lines and even SCENES. There is now a campfire scene, a scene with Tweeg and L.B., etc. I love the new Teddy; he's awesome and I reccommend you purchase him. I didn't mention this, but I got the exclusive original vest version. I will post pictures later because I am too lazy to do it now Wow, it doesn't seem like he's too bad. It does upset me that they removed Come and Discover, but it's cool that they added new scenes and introduced the villain in the first story. Did they record all-new dialogue with the original voice actors or did they just use the Backpack Toys versions of the stories?

The Airship is the remastered story that was first released with the BackPack Toys version. The new dialogue comes from the ABC "animatronic" movie that was released in 1985.

Photos would be appreciated, please! As I am in Australia, I am interested, but the exchange rate makes for a horrifically high price, and I would rather wait until he isn't so new and shiny to drop my cash on him. I would love to see his eyes when they are off, seems like a traumatizing flaw just waiting to fuel some nightmares.

Will WCT be releasing the original 1987 cuts of the stories? You know for us old school fellas who want their kids to relive the magic? Fingers crossed. BTW No amount of money would deter me from purchasing them...just saying!

Will WCT be releasing the original 1987 cuts of the stories? You know for us old school fellas who want their kids to relive the magic? Fingers crossed. BTW No amount of money would deter me from purchasing them...just saying! I think that would be a great suggestion. My philosophy at the moment is to give them and the newest generation of kids time to develop the kind of brand relationship that has made all of us such ardent lifelong fans. There is definitely a market for Teddy Ruxpin content beyond that key demo as things roll along. I hope one day the music is released, too. The recordings which were once upon a time released by Rhino Records. Great stuff. Some of it was recorded in the 90's, and some has more of the feel of the TV show recordings, just unedited. Please keep these good suggestions flowing here, everyone!

I don't think I said this earlier, but I do agree on the LCD eyes when Teddy Ruxpin is off, they should have implemented plastic eyelids that close when Teddy is off. I understand that the Cabbage Patch Kids Baby So Real doll does indeed have this feature, I also understand that Furby Connect has this feature. So I don't know why WCT didn't implement that feature into Teddy Ruxpin, unless of course the eyelids are physically there but haven't been enabled for control in the software. I ordered the new Teddy Ruxpin on Amazon in June, but I cancelled my order the other day because of some stuff I'd been told about the new Teddy Ruxpin. I may place another order for one in a few weeks maybe, I just hope that WCT can make improvements to Teddy Ruxpin because currently it's a bit rough around the edges, I know most of the problems can be corrected in the software, but the question I have is will WCT correct these problems? I hope they do.

The edits to the story are another flaw. I don't mean the added scenes, I mean cutting off half of the "My Friend" song and other questionable edits. Someone mentioned Furby connect, and yes, it's quite obvious to anyone not in denial that WCT was "inspired" by Furby Connect, to say the least..
I doubt the eyelids are physically there as that would be money spent to manufacture an unused feature.. And we all know WCT and its cheapness..
Also, welcome back Josh! It is good to see you here.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, as well as being a fairly new Teddy fan. I have watched the TV show and listened to some stories on youtube. I like both a lot. I want to share my opinion of the things I've heard about the new Teddy. First, I will get the negatives out of the way. I don't really like that Wicked Cool Toys has edited the stories' content but can understand why they chose to do it. The target audience is young children for now. I guess all we can do is wait and hope they might release some unedited content in the future. I hope the cuts aren't too bad though. Does anyone know if they edited the Lullabies? I hope not, or at least very little. Second, I am not thrilled about the eye design for two reasons. One, I prefer traditional mechanical eyes because they would make Teddy much more realistic. Two, I am blind and couldn't enjoy LCd eyes, no matter if they look great. They probably will feel like little round TV screens to me. I am also unsure if the app will be accessible for me because it apparently uses icons, which I can't see, to operate. Hopefully, they can do something about that in the future.
I have actually been in contact with Wicked Cool Toys a few times during the development of Teddy Ruxpin. They have been very polite and have apparently openly listened to my concerns and suggestions. The other day, I told them about my accessibility problems and they got back to mee within hours, saying they had already passed my feedback onto their teams. I also asked them about the stories and they said that my concerns about them would be passed along as well. They explained that the stories were edited because a lot of kids said that they wanted shorter stories because they would be easier to follow. I can respect this. My experience has been very positive so far. I would recommend contacting them if you have concerns. As long as you are polite and patient, you shouldn't have problems.
I have heard good things about the new Teddy, too. The stories are The original stories. I have also heard that he is really soft, nice to hold and cuddle, which is good to know. Even though what I have heard has been mixed, I am willing to give the new Teddy a chance. I am willing to wait and see what happens and hoping that I, and many other Teddy fans, will be able to enjoy him.
Thank you for your time. Also, thank you Josh for answering my questions before.

OK. I can answer at least some of your questions and points. Firstly, Teddy Ruxpin Lullabies has not been edited aside from the introduction being shortened, the songs are still the full length versions. Secondly, I too have a vision impairment and I use VoiceOver on my iPhone. I do not yet have the new Teddy Ruxpin but I did download the app, unfortunately it is not accessible to VoiceOver users, at all, you cannot use the app with VoiceOver, I also contacted WCT about this and I too have found them to be polite and interested in my feedback. I suggested a possible solution to the edited stories issue. I should have suggested to them that they contact Jonathan Mosen of Mosen Consulting so they can learn how to make the app accessible to those of us who are blind. I think the toy itself will be completely usable by a blind person, the LCD eyes don't, as I understand it, display textual information, just graphics. I did preorder Teddy Ruxpin, but I cancelled my preorder at the last minute. Of course I can, and in the end probably will, order one again and this time I'll pay for it and hopefully receive it. Are you at all familiar with the 2006 BackPack Toys Teddy Ruxpin? If you are, you'll know that stories such as The Airship and The Missing Princess were rewritten by Ken Forsse and reproduced with new dialogue. Well, WCT are using these newer versions of the stories, but there's one big downside to this. The last story in this newer set, a story called The Treasure, will not be released for the new Teddy Ruxpin, I was told that the original source material for this story was lost and cannot be retrieved, this is saddening. It's still early days for the new Teddy Ruxpin, there are things about it that give me pause, but I'm hoping with effort and time, WCT will improve it and make is really special for children being introduced to Teddy Ruxpin, and the legacy fanbase alike.
Lachlan.

No, I know almost nothing about the Backpack Toys Teddy Ruxpin, other than that they expanded the original Airship and Missing Princess stories into five new ones. I would have liked to hear at least one of those unedited for the experience. I wish I'd known about Teddy Ruxpin back then because I might have gotten one. As it is now, I have not been fortunate enough to have even held any version of Teddy Ruxpin. I only got interested in him about a year ago so I guess that's okay. Maybe I will this time. Thanks for your help Lachlan. It was nice meeting you.

I expect that sparkpikachu would prefer to have a working, fully working, Teddy Ruxpin, I don't know why he/she would want a non working one.

Yes, I'd definitely prefer a working one. I am excited for the new one because I will actually get to hear the stories told by Teddy, instead of from only youtube videos. I think it's neat though when people do videos where you can hear Teddy's motors moving, it's more like he's actually there. Just so you know, I'm a girl.

I don't know whether you've seen my YouTube videos about Teddy Ruxpin or not, I've done several of them, I haven't done any Teddy Ruxpin videos recently. And yes, I would have assumed you'd prefer to have a Teddy Ruxpin that works.

Yes, I've seen a few. They're good. I like the one where you show the Yes! Teddy working with the video pack and the one where you describe the Backpack Teddy. You are good at giving helpful details. In the Yes! video, I may have noticed a funny error with the toy. I don't know for sure but, when he was singing the show's theme song, I thought he said "Let's watch the clouds so far below" instead of "Let's watch the ground so far below". It gave me some pretty funny mental pictures. I also noticed that you did some videos of the songs. do you have any favourite Teddy songs? Some of mine are "Come Dream With Me Tonight," "This Lovely Night," and "Your Friend." There are a lot of others I like too. It's too hard to pick one that I like most. It was nice talking to you.
