I asked Wicked Cool Toys about which stories came with Teddy and which ones were going to initially be available for purchase and here's what they said: I just wanted to pass the information along.

It's nice that it comes with 3 stories already with it. As much as I dislike this new Teddy, I think that was a good decision on their part.

You'll notice that The Treasure is missing from that list. If you owned the BackPack Toys Teddy Ruxpin you'll remember that The Treasure was the last story in the Treasure series of stories. So does this mean they've changed The Missing Princess a bit so that it ends the adventure? I mean, The Missing Princess for the BPT Teddy Ruxpin talked about getting to the Treturous Mountains and finding the Gutang guardhouse and finding the princess, then The Treasure told the story of finding the treasure, escaping from the Treturous Mountains and the arial combat with the Gutang fighter craft. I'm hoping they've left in the Gutang aircraft fight scene to be honest with you, if they haven't then that's disappointing.

I don't know if they end the stories at all. To my knowledge, they were planning on releasing new stories every season or so.

I think I've seen them say on Facebook they plan to release 10 stories every year, of course this may not be set in stone, and if it is, it could change.

Do you think so? If they do, it could theoretically mean they'll publish all the original stories over time. The cartoon show has plenty of scope for new stories for Teddy Ruxpin because there's plenty of stuff that happens in the cartoon show that doesn't happen in the storybooks.

That's actually a really good idea. It would probably be really easy to convert the episodes to stories.

It would be. On a slightly unrelated note, I have some potentially unfortunate news. QVC are apparently selling a special edition Teddy Ruxpin that comes with paperback books, I saw a video of their Teddy Ruxpin sale and they demonstrated the toy. I was impressed with it, but there was one issue I wasn't happy with at all. It looks like they've edited and shortened some of the songs. From the video I saw it looks like they've removed the second chorus and the second verse of Your Friend. It's also been suggested to me that the Koala song from All About Bears has been shortened too. I don't understand why this is. I did post a comment to the official Teddy Ruxpin Facebook page about this yesterday, but I've yet to hear back from WCT about this. If all the songs have been shortened, then that's extremely disappointing. Technically I think it would be possible for WCT to reissue the stories with the full unedited versions of the songs. I do hope they haven't shortened all the classic songs, because if they have, I'm going to be very angry indeed.

I don't know, I don't know why they did it. It could be that QVC were using a demo Teddy Ruxpin that has shortened songs for some reason, it's difficult to know. I posted a message on their official Teddy Ruxpin page asking about this issue, but they've yet to get back to me. If, when I get my new Teddy Ruxpin, I discovered that the songs have been shorten, I'll E-mail them and ask them what's going on and why the songs were shortened. I hope they can give a believable, credible and plausible reason. If it turns out the songs have been shorten, I'm probably going to ask them whether they'll reissue the stories with the full songs intact.

Why would they shorten the songs? I mean, do they think kids can't pay attention to a song for two whole minutes? sigh.

I don't know Paul. I can think of 2 reasons why they did it. Firstly, they shortened it to save time on creating animation code for the new Teddy Ruxpin, and that's just pure laziness. Secondly, the shortened it so they could get Teddy Ruxpin out the door as soon as possible. Since the stories are all digital, there's a theoretical possibility that they may in the future rerelease the stories with all the songs in full and all the dialogue in full. We don't know if they'll do that or not, but once I get my Teddy Ruxpin I certainly will be contacting WCT to ask them why the songs were shortened.

When you get yours, can you guys let me know if they remove the Children's Safety Message at the end of The Missing Princess? I'm guessing they would to save time, but I've always thought that message was very important, and the last song is one of my all time favorites.

It's one of my favourites too. I'm quite sure that message has been removed, it wasn't in the 2006 version of the story at all and neither were the songs, so I'd be somewhat surprised if they've brought it back. I too was disappointed when they removed the message and the songs from the end of that story arc, it's such an important message, in some ways it's probably more important than it was in the 80s because dangerous people still very much exist and they do target children, which is very sad.
