19 years ago today the first episode of Power Rangers, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S01E01, "Day of the Dumpster", aired. Hard to believe that it's been 19 years since the Power Rangers first appeared. Since then, 736 episodes have been filmed and aired, contained in 19 seasons of 16 different series, with hundreds of characters, villains, vehicles and weapons.
The franchise has had it's ups and downs, with some seasons/series being better received than others. But, it's still quite popular today, despite the fact that the original series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has been over for 18 years. Disney produced it from 2002-2010, and took it in a direction that the original producer, creator, Haim Saban couldn't.
Power Rangers RPM, the final original series in the franchise to be produced by Disney, was dark, gritty and more adult than any other Power Rangers series. Definitely on the opposite end of the spectrum from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Next year is the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers, and from I've read on the internet, the 20th season, 17th series, Power Rangers Mega Force is going to be huge in terms of connections to the history of Power Rangers. Happy birthday Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, Tommy, Rita, Zordon, Alpha, Bulk, Skull, Goldar, Megazord and Dragonzord! Happy birthday Power Rangers!

I remember my sisters watching this in 1993. It was a bit visual for me, but I vividly remember the theme song.

I don't think anyone who was born between 1985 and 1989 can forget that theme song, even if they weren't a huge fan of the show itself, if they saw the opening credits, then they probably remember the theme song.
As sort of a transition from Disney back to Saban, they re-aired thirty-two of the original 60 episodes that made up the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, with new effects and cleaned up picture, as well as updating the opening credit sequence and removing the end credit sequence, placing the end credits over the final scenes of the episodes.
The producers consider it to be the 18th episode, despite the fact that they're old episodes re-aired and visually cleaner. The updated visual look was mostly on the fight scenes, as they were taken from Japanese footage for another franchise called Super Sentai. All Power Ranger shows take footage from Super Sentai for the Ranger costumes, weapons & technology, monsters, some villains, Zord (giant mechs used to fight big monsters), and all morphed (characters transforming into their Ranger suits) fight scenes. All other footage is new footage shot by whoever was producing it whether it's Disney or Saban.
