If anyone has the new DVD set that came out recently. Please tell me how it is. Is the audio still warbled,is the picture quality good,is it true that it has the missing episodes that were never aired on tv? Thanks. I was thinking about getting it recently and I wanted to know what everyone else thinks of the new DVD set.also is it true that a toy company is selling a new Teddy Ruxpin talking toy in August?

The new DVD set has been delayed and won't be released until July. So no, nobody has it yet. As for the new toy, I have no idea. But if it were true I think Josh would've announced it. If he was able to that is.

As Josh pointed out, the DVD has been delayed until July. I'm not aware of any official reason, but this happens from time to time. Companies like to place products in the market during peak buying times and when the market isn't saturated with new releases. July is typically a slow time for home video new releases, so they're probably just trying to capitalize on that.
Would be interested to know Sonic where you heard a new toy was coming out in August. If that is true - then something has happened within the last week. LOL.

I thought July would be a big month for new movies etc in America, I mean it's summer over there and "School's out" and all that sort of thing.

Here in North America a lot of summer movies come out in May or June, but not a whole lot come out in July. This is mainly because those movies that have already come out in May or June have been out long enough that they're already box office hits so those movies coming out in July make less money because the A-listers have been out for a while and are already or have already made lots of money. The way I understand it there are five times for major motion picture releases: Summer (May/June), Thanksgiving (October/November), Christmas/New Year's (December/January), Valentine's Day/Spring Break (February/March), and Easter (April). Any other time of the year is less certain for box office sales.
Having said that, DVD releases are pretty hit and miss too. Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Father's Day are all big selling times for DVDs as they're big shopping times in general.
Relating to the Teddy Ruxpin DVD release, they probably decided just to wait for a month that isn't filled with box office hits in theatres or big DVD sales, so more people will be looking at tv shows to buy on DVD rather than the latest blockbuster. That's just my theory though.

I would love to see them release a new toy, but I hope the DVD will bring Teddy back in the public consciousness and make him popular again. It would be cool if they aired his TV series on The Hub or maybe the classic Cartoon Network or something so the kids will get into it, not just the collectors.
I believe kids today could still like Teddy if they saw him and he wasn't marketed as a nostalgia item. My nieces, ages 2 and 5, absolutely think Teddy is the coolest thing in the history of ever and they love him.
I didn't collect Teddy or really tape talkers in general when the Backpack Toys Teddy came out, but from what I've seen, the little marketing he received was to parents who remembered Teddy and wanted to give their kids something from their childhood. They should have advertised him to kids as a cool storytelling bear like they did back when he first came out. I never even heard about the Backpack Toys version of Teddy until I joined this forum and started seriously researching tape talkers, so that shows how cruddy the marketing was. The TR fandom is sort of a small subculture if you want to call it that, so they would be better served by marketing any new Teddy product directly to kids and not push the fact that he's an old toy.

That was the same with me pretty much. I don't recall ever seeing the Backpack Teddy in stores like Wal-Mart, Zellers or Toys R Us here in Canada. And they sure weren't advertising him on any commercials. Not even at Christmas time, when they usually advertise those things. Though, truth be told, I was at the end of high school, and I didn't have a lot of time to watch Teletoon (Canada's cartoon network) which is where they'd most likely advertise for things like that.
Having said that, I simply just think that Canada missed out on the Backpack Teddy, as it did with a lot of the WoW Teddy stuff back in the late '80s and early '90s. So I didn't even know that Teddy was still around.

Sorry, not blueoctopede. I go by bluegrassbaby86 on youtube. I haven't uploaded very many vids, but I've seen a lot of yours. Josh is not talking in third person, there are actually two guys named Josh.

Yes - there are two Josh's. Usually I remember to refer to his screen name to avoid confusion but as we're friends off the board I sometimes forget.
There isn't a new Teddy Ruxpin coming out in August. I'm sorry you've been misinformed. Where did you hear this?

Yeah, it's easier to refer to me as my screen name than for everyone to just say Josh. Especially if the two of us are participating in the same thread.

It was supposed to be, but they delayed it. As for the new bear, I haven't heard anything about it, nor has Josh. And, if he hasn't heard about it, then chances are it's not true, since he knows Ken Forsse. If a new Teddy Ruxpin was coming out, Josh would tell us. Granted, he has hinted at something big going on with Teddy Ruxpin, but that may not be anything that has to do with the release of a new toy.

Yes unfortunately the DVD was delayed. Only for a month though - July 10, 2012 is now the release date.
Yes - if Teddy was making a comeback in only 60 days I would know about it, and not just because Ken is a friend.. There would be a marketing campaign, press releases and such. I just spoke with Mr. Forsse within the last 10 days and there was no mention of an August Teddy release, which cements it as an unfortunate 'no'. I would hope anyone selling this as hard fact would now change course. That doesn't mean we shouldn't wish it was true.
