I've seen several listings for a VHS called "Teddy Ruxpin: The Movie." I know it can't be the live-action movie because the runtime is 97 minutes, and the live-action is only about 45.
Is it just the first few episodes of the series merged into one film, or is it completely new animation?

I remember when "Teddy Ruxpin: The Movie" was released...I think in 1999 shortly after the Yes! Entertainment Teddy hit store shelves. While I've never seen it, I believe Josh has a copy. As I recall it is simply the first five episodes of the series ("The Treasure of Grundo" to "Escape From the Treacherous Mountain").
Not sure if "Guests of the Grunges" is included in there as that episode was also eliminated from the original Hi-Top VHS releases of the first story arc and given it's own volume. That is understandable, since it really doesn't move the story forward so much as it does introduce new characters and locations.
I'm also not sure if the small "live Teddy" vignettes seen in the original Hi-Tops videos are included here.
It was most likely released to help sell the Yes! Teddy Ruxpin, though separate VHS tapes were released for that bear as well as part of a video interactivity kit that allowed that particular bear to talk as the video played. While I purchased one of these kits on eBay, I've never used it since my VHS player has long since been retired.
Hope this helps.

I thought that was what it might be, but I wasn't sure. I didn't know that about "Guests of the Grunges." It makes sense though.
Thanks.

BlueOctopede did a review of this on youtube. She said it was just several episodes merged into one. She wasn't impressed by it.

Yeah. It's not that impressive. Especially since the animatronic movie does the same thing. With the inclusion of the introduction of Wooly, which happens in "Guests of the Grunges" in the animated series.

When it came out in - I believe it was - 1999, It was a welcomed addition to the market. DVD was a newer medium at that time and I was happy there was a fresh assembly line of VHS tape imprinted with scenes from the TV show. With that being said, the DVD releases made it completely obsolete. The clamshell case and cover art, though, were first-class, and it's worth having just for that.
