I have a 1st gen Teddy whose motors are noisier than any other Teddy I've met. The general answer to this question always seems to be aside from switching out the servos for the quieter, newer ones, there's nothing you can do. Anyone ever heard of anything else you can do?

The noise is a result of the fact that the rubber wheel is driven through a gearbox that contains (I believe)a total of 6 nylon gears. If you have ever taken one of these servos apart, getting the gears back in their proper place is tricky...in fact downright difficult. It can be done but with great care. I say this because the only thing that might (and I emphasize the might) reduce the gear noise would be to re-grease these nylon gears with white lithium grease. It is my understanding that this is what was used in manufacture of these things. Like any grease, it dries out over time. And here we are talking 30 years of time. Re=greasing would quiet the gears and reduce the noise some. But you could be creating other problems...especially being too liberal with the grease. The cause of these servos going dead is generally that the grease in the gearcase has leaked through into the motor, and shorted it. So I would guess that if you want to experiment and have no qualms about digging in or of the potential for having to replace the noisy servo in the end anyway, go for it. But if you are not adventurous or have any replacement servos at the ready, you might want to just learn to live with the noise.

Thanks for the info! This is my own Teddy and my favorite, so I think I will just love him the way he is noisy motors and all
