I was at work a couple of weeks ago talking to my manager about how old I feel lately after mentioning something about Lite Brite to my 10 year old niece and realizing, to my horror, that she had no idea what I was talking about. My manager, who is four years older than me, continued to reminisce about things we remembered from our childhood. Her favorite toys were Care Bears, but she quickly followed with: "I miss my Teddy Ruxpin!"
I proceeded to let my inner Teddy fan out, telling her how I had just recently had mine repaired and he works fantastically. She's hoping to get one for Christmas one year. I also posted a link on her Facebook timeline about the new DVD set, and I may just pick up a copy for her.
This got me thinking: where is the strangest or most unexpected place you've ever encountered another Teddy fan?
Very anxious to hear any stories you all have to share!

One of my friends in college liked Teddy Ruxpin. She's a few years younger than I am which means she was born in '88/'89, at the end of Teddy's original run, and after the tv show had gone through it's first run. I don't remember if she just watched the tv show or if she actually had a Teddy Ruxpin, but when I mentioned him, she told me she remembered him from her childhood. So, she could've watched the reruns of the animated series, or she might've also had a WoW Teddy-II, or a Playskool Teddy-II.

I used to hang out with a very highly technical group, a lot of whom were much more technologically skilled than I am myself. One time, a discussion arose about what our favourite childhood toys were, and I mentioned Teddy Ruxpin as one of them, which prompted one of the other guys, a programmer, to respond with surprise that someone else remembered Teddy, and to mention that Teddy Ruxpin was one of his childhood favourites, too. I'd mentioned that I had and still have a Teddy II, and he even recalled the size and media distinction between those two models, noting that he'd had a Teddy I. After briefly wishing that Teddy was still available to buy, perhaps now in a digital version, he was surprised when I mentioned that one had existed and been available between 2006 and 2010, too. Someone else in the same group also fondly remembered the TV series, after this, too.

Neat topic Vincent Years ago I ate right across the street from where I worked almost everyday for lunch. One of the waitresses was quite easy on the eyes and a sweetheart. But I always feel like I have 8 left feet in those situations... so, I didn't say anything. Years pass and we develop a mutual friend. I find out the waitress is now married - but, by the way, she had a huge crush on me about the same time I did her. Story of my life. In any case - she and I became friends and ironically she's the biggest Teddy fan I've ever met outside of my role as the manager of the site and these boards. We would have had a lot in common, and I could have probably even gotten Phil on the phone to tell her hello and won some brownie points. Talk about a missed opportunity. Carpe Diem, folks!

Neat stories, guys! Whenever I meet other fans like that, I always feel like it is the melding of two separate worlds into one, and it's a very cool feeling. Josh, man, I know the feeling. I always feel clumsy in those situations. I lack the "suave" of other people. Not to get off topic, but I recently had a girl render me completely speechless: something that has not happened in a very long time. I remember bringing my Teddy Ruxpin to school for Show and Tell and leaving him in my locker all day. He looked very cramped but very happy in there. One of my friends saw him and squealed, "Teddy!" When I brought him to class, many of the students recognized him and asked if he still worked. I didn't bother turning him on, as I was afraid he would draw attention and kids would want to handle him. The last time that happened at a family gathering, my cousins tore out Teddy's lower jaw and I was heartbroken until my poor mother ran out to buy another one. I'm pretty sure I went through enough Teddys at that young age that we could've bought some stock in WoW. My parents instantly realized how much I loved him and how fragile he would be in my hands and bought several "backups" just in case. I still have the last one in his box on my shelf. I've been very blessed in that regard.
