I got my first Furby at a thrift store yesterday. I'm still trying to figure out how to work him. I found a manual online. He's a Furby Baby, but I haven't figured out what his name is. I just keep calling him Furby, poor guy. It sounds like he keeps calling me Da-Da and I always reflexively say, "I'm not your dad," lol.

I had a Furby Baby a long time ago. The one thing I remember is that to feed him, you put your finger inside his mouth, and gently press his tongue.

I did figure that part out. He kept asking for a bottle and I thought he was supposed to come with one, which of course he didn't.

Oddly enough, they never came with one originally! Even the instructions had a bizarrely-worded part about how you have to stick your finger in his mouth when he asks for food, haha.

Furbies were always sort of weird little creatures, haha. They're cute and they sound cute, but they didn't really do much else. It seemed like baby furby would be as useless as Baby Teddy was.

Just to warn you, though. When you get tired of playing with it, you might want to take the batteries out.
You would not believe the number of times my Furbies have turned themselves on without me doing anything. You can't trust them to stay asleep.

The late Tony Pope - who voiced Gimmick in the WoW Adventure Series ( he was replaced by Canadian Actor John Stocker in the TV Series) was also the voice of Furby.

I personally never owned a Furby. However, I shared one with my brother and sister. They played with it more though. I hated it when they woke up for no reason. Lol. Wow, that's cool that Furby has a Teddy Ruxpin connection.

I have one that hasn't had batteries in it since the 90's. It makes a nice companion to Teddy & the gang on that shelf.

I can imagine. I know this should go in the main forum, but since we're on the subject, I have a question. Was Tony Pope able to return as Gimmick for the Backpack Teddy stories, or did he die before they were produced? If so, who voiced Gimmick for Backpack Toys?

Did he also voice Furby Baby?

Not sure if he voiced Baby Furby or not. In fact I wasn't aware there was one.
He passed away in 2004, slightly before the Teddy license transferred to BackPack. The only new audio that was required was Teddy - Phil Baron came back and did a couple of sessions. No new audio was required from any of the other characters that couldn't be harvested from the '86 Movie or the WoW books. When there are new Teddy stories Mr. Pope will be missed. I personally hope John Stocker returns as Gimmick, but being that he isn't based in LA that is probably unlikely. I remember several years ago hearing they had someone lined up who could do Gimmick's voice if needed.

Ah. For the last year, I wondered how they did the production for the Backpack Teddy stories. I mean, I knew the dialogue was a mix of the dialogue from the original "The Airship", and from the '86 movie. However, I did not realize they just harvested the audio clips from both, and cut them together to form the new version of "The Airship", with whatever new dialogue written for Phil Baron to act out as Teddy.

About the Furby Babies, whilst they don't sound the same as the full-sized ones, it may be that the audio for them is pitch-shifted upwards, as what they actually say and do is quite similar. They are a lot higher-pitched, though. It's fascinating to hear that Tony Pope was the voice of the originals, though - it puts the parallels that some draw between Fobs and Furbies in an entirely different light! If anyone wants to compare, to see if my guess about the pitch-shifting might be right, there's a video of the original type of Furby here, and one of a Furby Baby located here.
