So, I came across my Teddy Ruxpin, 1985 one. It didn't power on with batteries. So I desoldered one of the battery clips and soaking it in lime away for 2 days (Major battery corrosion)
After re attaching it all it powers on. The left thing in the player starts to spin. Now I don't have any tapes anymore. So I put in an old cassette (Billy Joel one) and it plays for half a second and then that left spinner thing stops and doesn't move. Speaker works, but my question is....
Is this the motor for the player completely fried or do only tapes of Teddy Ruxpin will start playing normally. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I don't know a lot about repairing him, but I would say that if he won't play your music tape correctly, there's something funky going on inside him.

The short of this is that retrobear is correct. From your description, I'm guessing that your Teddy has the plastic-backed tape-player (the one with the word "PLAY" written inside it), and that what's wrong is that the retaining spring inside has popped off. My understanding is that this is very common with the plastic tape-players, as the adhesive that holds this part is place ages. It may also be that the same spring is not tense enough anymore. Both of these are a relatively easy fix, if you're so inclined. If you're of the handy persuasion, instructions on deconstruction and repair are available here (I take no responsibility for this link or what anyone does with it, and I'm not associated with it in any way - I just found it to be a useful reference). I hope that this helps!

Yes I'm afraid so but you can get him restored three ways though. Dr. Eeyore's Hospital, Animation Fascination, and also a user on eBay atticaddictsone. Hope this helps. The cheapest alternative is to get him fixed by atticaddictsone. She fixes them very good.Ive gotten my metal cassette deck teddy fixed by her and he now works perfectly. And it's onley 40 dollars.
