nashville.craigslist.org/bab/2925458291.htmlWhat do you guys think of this one and which one is he? I can't see the pic and I hate buying online, so I thought I would show you guys and get your expert opinions. They said he works, but if he doesn't I'll have him restored.

I've e-mailed this person, but I haven't heard anything back yet. Hopefully they'll get back to me. I will probably get him. Can anybody tell which version he is? He comes with the Airship tape. I'm thinking of making a youtube vid of him playing when I get him.

He's a "Teddy II" - the smaller version, the same as I have.
Going by the photograph, he appears to be a late-WoW Teddy II (made in 1990 and 1991, and possibly a little bit earlier), rather than a PlaySkool one (made from 1992 until 1996).

Cool. So will the Airship story he comes with be the same one that the original has or will it be different? That's the one with the cartridges, right?

Yep, Teddy II is the one with the 8-track style tape-cartridges ("8-track style" is a bit of a misnomer, as the way they work is actually derived from standard cassette tapes). (Teddy IV used digital cartridges, which is why I make this distinction, here. Also, Teddy IV is the one that changed most of the stories substantially!)
All of the stories that were released for Teddy II are identical in every way to the Teddy I versions - the only difference is the format of the tapes, and the fact that the Teddy II books are paperbacks. It is worth noting that there were less stories known to be released for Teddy II, though, and that they can be a bit tricky to find for decent prices, sometimes - just something to be aware of.

I really hope this person e-mails me because I want him bad. This means that I'll have two of them when I find my 80s version. I really hope I can get this guy. You say the cartridges are 8 track style. I collect 8 track tapes. Will he play them or does he only play his tapes?

He'll only play his tapes. Teddy II's tapes are "8-track style" only in how they look and are shaped - they're roughly like a miniature 8-track tape. Internally, though, they function the same as a standard audio cassette.

Yep. His 8-tracks are tiny little things.
You'll generally find that his books have more text than WoW books.

Well I can't actually read the books unless they come in braille, lol. I don't know if I should e-mail the person again or not. I sent a message yesterday, but it wasn't their actual address. It was a weird address from Craigslist. I copied and pasted it into Gmail, but I don't know if they got it. GRRRR!!! BTW, just curious. What kind of tapes does the 1998 Teddy that everybody doesn't like play?

Teddy III uses standard audio cassettes, but they have the same Frequency Modulation animation data as Teddy II (and, as far as I know, Teddy IV, as well). (Teddy I uses Pulse Width Modulation, instead.)
EDIT: Oh! I forgot to point this out earlier, but if this Teddy II doesn't work, you'll have a hard time getting him restored - my understanding is that most of the restorers won't deal with Teddy IIs, as they're very time-consuming to fix properly.

On the listing it said he works, but if he doesn't and I can't get him restored, I'll just keep him as a teddy bear.

For what it's worth, the most common issue with Teddy IIs is that their mouth will no longer move fully. Usually the eyes will still work, and tape playback will still be as perfect as the day they were new.

Well I can't see, so the mouth not moving won't bother me, just as long as he plays.

He will very likely play perfectly.

I'm getting so frustrated because the guy hasn't e-mailed me back. If it was you, how long would you guys give him or her to contact you before you gave up and set your sights on another one?
