Hi, guys. I hope it's appropriate to post an intro here. I didn't see a lot of them posted, so I wasn't sure if I should or not.
Unfortunately I don't have a Teddy Ruxpin at the moment, but I've wanted one ever since I was a kid. I was introduced to him in 1992. I had a friend who had one and she carried him around everywhere and always played him. I used to love listening to his tapes. I got one for Christmas in 1994, but someone tore him up, which really made me mad. I've always been fascinated by talking toys, especially the tape player toys. I'm trying to start collecting them. The only one I have right now is a Casey talking robot that doesn't work. I'm trying to get more, and I REALLY want Teddy, but it's hard to buy online as I do not have vision, so I really need to feel what I am buying. I do watch his vids on youtube, though.

Welcome. I'm sure you'll enjoy the discussions on here. We have a really great time talking about Teddy Ruxpin and other things too. I've been here for a year now, and I've made some really good friends.

Thanks, guys. I really like this board. Dang, I've wanted a Teddy for years, but now I need one badly. I feel like I had a deprived childhood because I didn't have him, lol.

Hi and welcome, retrobear! ;D It's nice to meet you.
Also, it's really cool to see someone else who knows of Casey! I had Casey as a kid, and he was probably a contributing factor to my love of stories about sentient, sapient robots.

Your best bet would probably be to keep an eye on the refurbishers, if you want an old WoW one that works. Like Dr. Eeyore's page: www.dreeyoreshospital.net/Otherwise, you do take a gamble. Though WoW Teddys are amazingly sturdy. My old bear hasn't been used for nearly 20 years, and after a short bit of motor seizure, he's working pretty well.

I think that I'm going to look at thrift stores and yard sales because I hate shopping online. If he doesn't play I'll find someone to restore him or I'll learn how. I really don't have a lot of money, and I also need to feel what I'm buying because I can't see. This is probably crazy because I know what he feels like. I do have a friend that refurbishes dolls and used to make teddy bears that said she would keep an eye out for Teddy for me. She said she saw one at Goodwill that she passed up, but she said she would get another one if she ever came across him again and I'll get one from her if she does since she will get him specifically because I asked for him.

That's awesome. Man, I wish Canada had more of this stuff. Most of my Teddy Ruxpin book and tapes sets my grandmother got at garage sales, and none of the later Teddy Ruxpins were available here either. But, through the MP3s I have, the bookscans I now have, and are still looking for, I'm getting to enjoy Teddy in all his forms again.
