I read the book and watched the movie approximately ten years ago. It ranks in my top ten of all time favorite stories. I admit it has been way too long since I have revisitied the story, and my memory of it is blurry but it always reminded me of TR.. but of course was also unique. Anybody else a fan or see the similarities?

I remember reading the book and watching the movie as well; I enjoyed the 2D animation style. Quite a dark story...

I love Watership Down! I've never seen the whole movie, but I adore the book. You really can't look at rabbits the same way after that. I'm also a huge fan of the Redwall series. I've never thought about it before, but I can see more similarities between TR and Redwall than Watership Down. (Anyone else see a big fat parallel between the crystals and the sword of Martin the Warrior? )

I love both the movie and books! it's hard to know that the animated movie is quite bloody even for a PG rating.

I am a fan of many talking animal and funny animal fictions. I am sad to say that I have not seen these books or movies. I might have to rememdy that.
I was fond of the Secrets of NIMH and the other Don Bluth movies. They were a bit more serious in their plot than most of the Disney characters, which I also liked.

I prefered the movie more than the animated series that came out a few years ago. The movie scared the daylights out of me when I was younger, but I love it now.

Forgive a silly question: Was this the movie Secrets of NIMH that scared you or was Watership Down made into a movie?
The Don Bluth movies were criticized at the time for having themes that were too mature for young viewers. Of particular note I remember All Dogs Go To Heaven coming under fire because it depicted scenes of the Devil, and hell. Similarly the scenes with Nicodemus the rat are rather scary in the cartoon.
