Why was Aruzia kidnapped by the Gutangs?
What was their motive for holding her hostage?
Were the Gutangs working alone or were they prompted to kidnap the Princess?
What beef did the Gutangs have with the Illipers?
When did the whole thing start?
Did Arin set off alone to find his sister, or was he accompanied and he was the only one who survived?

Why was Aruzia kidnapped by the Gutangs?
This was never actually answered in the series. However, given the context of the later episodes, I would assume it would have something to do with either invasion of King Nogburt's kingdom (as in "The Secret of the Illiops"), or their alliance with M.A.V.O. in an effort to find the Crystals (as in "Anything in the Soup"). Just speculating here, as no definite answer was given.
Of course, simple ransom is as good a reason as any.
What was the motive for holding her hostage?
Again, most likely for ransom or extortion.
Were the Gutangs working alone or were they prompted to kidnap the Princess?
Again, I tend to think this was an independent effort by the Gutangs, as ironically, M.A.V.O. and Quellor had no idea the Crystals were hidden right there in the Hard-to-Find City, so there is no reason to use her in their quest to find the Crystals.
What beef did the Gutangs have with the Illipers?
I like to think that the Illipers drove out the Gutangs to take over Grundo, thus exiling them to the remote Hard-to-Find City. However, in "The Mystery Unravels", it would seem that just the opposite was true: that the Illipers were driven out by the Gutangs. In either case, there seems to be an intense animosity between the Gutangs and the Illipers.
When did the whole thing start?
Not sure if you're referring to the Gutang/Illiper rivalry or the kidnapping of the Princess. I tend to think the war between Illipers and Gutangs have been fighting for a hundred years or so. As for the kidnapping of Aruzia, I would think it happened perhaps a week or two before the first episode of "The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin." Arin mentions that he was captured by the Mudblups while searching for his sister. Assuming he searched closer to the castle before venturing to the Great Desert, I tend to think he was imprisoned in the Mudblup dungeon for a week or so before Teddy and the gang rescued him.
Did Arin set off alone to find his sister, or was he accompanied and he was the only one who survived?
I don't see Erin taking a contingent with him. He seems to talk about his battle with the Mudblups as a solo effort ("I fought a brave battle, but they outnumbered me"), so I tend to think he went off alone.
Hope this helps.

My $0.02 on a couple of these.
If "The Mystery Unravels" is anything to go by, it seems that there was an alliance of some sort between the Illiops and the Illipers. Since the Gutangs originally had it out for the Illiops, perhaps it was a case of 'the friend of my enemy is also my enemy'.

It would be an ideal question for Mr. Forsse. I have the entire series on DVD coming from Amazon. So I can do my "research" there So far though, I think I have enough information to write part 4 and 5 now.

When you get them, the Kingdom of Nogburt arc would be a good place to start, starting with "King Nogburt's Castle" and ending with "Secret of the Illiops".
"The Mystery Unravels" would also be a good episode for research.

I can't wait... I've got another pic I'm working on right now. I'm trying to figure out Maggie Parr's coloring style. I think she used watercolor and marker... and perhaps colored pencil. When I'm done I'll post the final pic here and you guys can judge. Rgds C

kaylathehedgehog makes a great point. I forgot that the alliance between Illipers and Illiops lasted quite some time. I also forgot how much I LOVE "The Mystery Unravels". What a great way to send Teddy off into the sunset...and spark the imaginations of his audience!

I have some insight into this, but I will refrain from spilling my guts... I am still hopeful more questions will be answered in future episodes of a new TV show or a movie. The series was supposed to have went on and answered some of these questions, but WoW squandered the gift they were given and overmarketed themselves to death. The stock market crash of '87 didn't help matters, either. Teddy has a lot more to do.

Ok so I've been watching the DVD's.
The Gutangs have an alliance with M.A.V.O through the efforts of Quellor. Quellor sees the benefit of having Gutangs as allies rather than enemies, simply because their technology is quite advanced. He may also have interest in what lies within the "Hard to Find City".
The Gutangs have beef with Nogburt. From causing the kingdoms water supply to be cut off, to raiding parties on the farmers.
"Farmers are the backbone of a Kingdom" - Prince Arin "Secret of the Illiops"
Over the course of the series the extent of the history between Nogburt's Kingdom and the Gutangs is sorta kinda explained. It is possible that Aruzia was captured for ransom, or in exchange, a kingdom for a Princess. Still, there are no definite answers everything is speculation at this point. As to the motive and reason behind the feud between Gutang and Illiper.

Y'know, I can't help feeling sorry for Quellor and what he has to put up with as far as the majority of MAVO is concerned. The Gutangs and Bognostraclum (blech! Hard name to say.) are really the only competent soldiers he can rely on.
He's not leading some vast nefarious organization; he's running a day care.
