I like dark rides. This one was a very beautiful one.
Sadly, It seems to have fallen into the "video screens and stupid humour" trend that has been the demise of many animatronic shows (and animatronic toys too, just look at the new Furby).
I love animatronics and puppetry, I don't want to see it die.
My favourite Disney ride is Carousel of Progress (second is It's a Small World). However, Carousel is the most outdated attraction in the American Disneyworld, especially the last scene, which is supposed to represent the future. I hope it does not close before I can travel to see it in person.

I love the Carousel of Progress too. Though, I highly doubt it'll close anytime soon. It's considered a beloved classic by many. I saw both Carousel of Progress and Country Bear Jamboree in person a few times when I visited Walt Disney World'a Magic Kingdom in 2013. I enjoyed them both a lot. But yeah.... the current 2002 version of Journey into Imagination just isn't the same as the original, I rode the current version when I went to Epcot that same week... Pretty dissapointing....
I'm just hoping with all the new Dreamfinder & Figment merchandise styled off the original being released, along with the two Marvel comic book series and the small Figment cameo in Inside Out....I'm hoping perhaps they'll eventually bring it back to it's former glory, just with some technology upgrades. I'd love to experience the original incarnation in person! Here's hoping for the best!

You know, in 2015, I was actually able to meet and talk to Tony Baxter, the creator of the original Journey into Imagination at a signing event I went to for the hardcover release of the 1st Marvel Figment comic series. Really really nice guy. You might know him as the creator of Splash Mountain and a few other famous attractions too. Infact, I asked him what he thought of the current 2002 one and he absolutely hates it! Lol! Not surprised Tbh. But anyway... just figured i'd mention that 😉

I'd love to experience the original incarnation in person! Here's hoping for the best! Yes I hope it will return to the original form. But, sadly I doubt it will happen.. Unless the attraction is very unpopular now. However, in this case, there is a chance they will turn the building into something completely different. Like when they turned the Mexican history ride into Three Caballeros, and more recently, turned Maelstrom into Frozen Ever After. Disney parks are more about selling merchandise than before. Which is not what Walt Disney intended. However, with new merchandise coming out for the Figment character, I doubt they will stop this franchise anytime soon. The attraction has a better chance for receiving a positive upgrade than the Mexican ride and Maelstrom ever did. So there is still much hope. As for the Carousel of Progress, I really hope you are right. However, even I think that it is in need of some changes. The last scene was intended to inspire the audience to think in wonder about our future. But it does not feel this way now. It feels outdated. Stuck between the present and the 90s. While I like it the way it is, it seems it is becoming much less popular now because of this scene. I could imagine an updated future scenario. Smartphones, touchscreens, keep the virtual reality, change the clothing, replace the laptop with a smartphone or tablet, make the meal vegetarian or made with lab grown meat, etc. But soon, that will also become the present, and then the past. If they continue to update the ride with every major change in the world, the difference in time from the scene before it will be far too big. So I have two ideas. Make the scene into a 1990s scene, which shouldn't be hard at all. Have them wonder about future technology at the end. Or return it to the original 1960s ending. Which is probably a bad idea, because that really wouldn't be about progress...

What most people today probably do not know is that the Carousel of Progress at Disney was actually the main feature of the General Electric Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair. In a large sense the Fair was really where animatronics took off. It's a Small World ride at Disney was the Pepsi Cola pavilion, and was actually built by the Disney people. And not only those two but many of the Fair attractions ended up in Orlando. When the Fair closed, a friend on mine then in NYC had a job dismantling the Fair buildings.. Part of what was happening involved representatives who were going around and buying up parts of the Fair, which the employees were told would be packed up for shipment to Florida. None of then could figure out why....until later. While the two pavilion mentioned were immediately reconstructed at Disney World and there on opening day, some was repurposed and used much later. There are portions of the GM Futurama that were used at Epcot, for example.

Yes, I have seen a video on YouTube about this!
Carousel of Progress is a very special ride, and like It's a Small World, it should be preserved for many years to come.
