Hi All,
I am in the middle of a MP3 converting project. My goal is to have a first gen TR that is using a built in MP3 source instead of the casettes and has three new micro servos to drive the animation.
My current status is as follows:
I have 20 TR tapes that I converted to VAW and MP3 files using an USB tape device and Audacity. I transferred the files to a 3rd gen Ipod Nano and use the earphone plug to output. Initially I tried to use the "casette thingy" to connect to Teddy. I found this setup too cumbersome and the head alignment of the two tape heads was not really reliable. Then I decided to get rid of the whole casette player assembly. Right now I use the input pins on the Ruxpin circuitboard where the tape head used to input and use the audio out from the headphone jack of the Ipod with the audio output level st to the lowest.
The following observations are TRUE REGARDLESS if I play back VAW or MP3 files on the Ipod.
With this setup Teddy Ruxpin works as he should about 80% of the time.
The audio from the bear is very good ALL the time, at least on par with the tape output.
The animation is as good as with tape, about 70% of the time and unreliable, but working some in about 10%.
I have three tapes that I can not make to work the animation at all. No matter what settings I use during conversion or what audio output I have on the Ipod. I observed with the files that that work, that the lower the Ipod audio output level is the better the animatronic response it is.
Here are some questions:
1. I read somewhere that the input of the Ipod should be after the preamp part of the TR circuitboard. Could be that the non uniform animation response is from overload because I input directly before the preamplifier?
2. I am not using the right settings in Audacity? My current setting is max output from the tape deck, minimum recording level in Audacity.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Denes
