One thought I had skimming through this thread - enough to get me out of hibernation! It was Tweeg, the Villain, who did what? Started a fight between perfectly good friends. I hope this will remain a place everyone can share their well-deserved opinion, without any name calling or other needless negativity. The world is too full of that, as it is. It's been my pleasure to be the moderator of this website for 18 years. As that draws to a close, I hope to close it the way I started it - having fun. Watch for a new project from me sometime in 2017. This forum will remain up as long as it doesn't become a problem to moderate. Please be considerate of each other. I think everyone has a right to their opinions, here. Josh Hi Josh, I started being in the forums since June 2016.

Let's all calm down here. Even if you hate this new prototype totally, I doubt anyone really wants this effort to fail or for Teddy to die. If that were your viewpoint, you wouldn't be here. But doing the usual internet nonsense of fighting among ourselves and coming up with new and exciting insults will accomplish nothing. There is going to be a level of vehemence in all of this, but its because we all have an interest in Teddy Ruxpin. You can call me whatever you wish to because I believe that success depends on coming as close to the original in terms of appearance and animatronic operation as reasonably possible. My view is build on that and incorporate whatever tech features they wish to improve on it. You may see it differently. But the key here is that Wicked Cool Toys has asked for input. So whatever your input may be, pass it on to the folks there. Maybe they are reading this forum to see the reaction...and maybe not. But passing opinion back and forth here and beating each other up is not going to have any positive impact on the development of a reintroduction of Teddy Ruxpin. I've written to them once, and after seeing the photos posted here I'll be writing again. It may not change a thing. But maybe it will. Its clear that they are reading this input from the reply I received. Certainly this company does not want to spend a lot of time and money developing something that is going to fall flat on its face. They want this reintroduction to succeed. Let's not fight each other, but instead let's try to help them reach success. They've asked, and many if not most companies might not bother. If we don't take advantage of the opportunity to lend input, it's out own fault.

I have sent an e-mail to them.
I am not sure if it will do anything, considering that they have already made a functioning prototype, but is worth a try.
Really, so many people dislike the LCD eyes, they really shouldn't have used them.

Hi all,
Been some time since I last posted, but given the occasion, I figured I'd chime in here with my opinions as well.
Like many of you here and others I've seen around the web, I cordially disapprove of the way this new Teddy looks. I agree that the whole thing is off, and doesn't really resemble the character that is Teddy Ruxpin. It lacks the personification of him as a sentient character. He looks more like a pet. Too infantile, or chibi.
And yes, the eyes are just awful. That they are blue is just the start of it. Can you imagine them glowing in a dimly lit, or dark room? It does not look "natural". It looks "supernatural". Creepy. Demonic. Then with all the stars and hearts that are animated, he looks spaced out or drunk or something. Just terrible. Didn't they mention early on how they were determining whether to use mechanical eyes or LED eyes and asked for fans' input? Did anyone actually tell them they thought LED would be a good idea? It just blows my mind that they would go ahead and do it anyway...
Ken would absolutely not approve of this. And that was one of my first thoughts before reading anyone else say it here. Ken would not allow this.
Such a missed opportunity. The technology is there. I think it's great that it will use an app. The interactive hands and feet are a great addition. These are the things they did right in reintroducing Teddy today. But they blew it when they went and so severely overhauled his character model and likeness. Then they nailed the coffin shut by implementing the LED eyes. They really are clueless.
Sorry for the rant. I really don't want Teddy to fail, so I am not wishing for that to happen. But as of now, I am not sure I will even buy this. Maybe I will, just to show support. But I can't just sit here, say "Good job, Wicked Cool", and pretend they did right by this.
*sigh*

I will absolutely not ever waste my money on this if they do not change it.
I would rather spend that money on my vintage and antique toy collection, and getting an original Teddy Ruxpin.
You can easily contact Wicked Cool Toys from their website. If everyone emailed them, perhaps they will make (even slight) improvements.

I certainly respect your stance on it. My instinct is to say the same, but I feel I would probably cave and buy it if I see it in store. Maybe I will stay strong. lol
Thankfully I have a mostly complete vintage collection and Backpack series. That is one thing keeping me somewhat at peace about this new one, in that at least I have my originals and they can't take those away. :-)
I'll also contact them, and would encourage everyone else to as well. But let's not kid ourselves. They've developed this new one this far, so they are most likely past the point of no return. The only thing they'd possibly even consider changing at this point would be the eye color or the color of his undershirt. Even then, they probably will stand their ground on it, as this is "their" version of it.

However, it is best to also let them know that we prefer mechanical eyes, or at the very least, partially mechanical eyes (ala Furby Connect). It will probably not do anything, but we might as well try. You are right, it isn't like the vintage Teddies suddenly vanished. We will continue to enjoy Teddy as he was, no matter what happens. Although searching on eBay for older Teddies will definitely be more of a hassle.. Having to scroll through all those ugly new ones!

Wow, this prototype sure isn't getting any love at all in this forum. Guys, look, I understand you're all very divided about the new Teddy Ruxpin and you're all upset about the LCD eyes, but at least Teddy Ruxpin is coming back. Everyone's been hoping and wishing he'd come back, now he is, and you're all complaining. At first I too wasn't keen on the idea of LCD eyes, but now I kind of don't mind, and some might not like the idea of Teddy being dependent on a tablet for play, but if what they say is true, you can load up to 40 stories onto Teddy and if you can do that, once they're on there you won't necessarily need to use a tablet computer all the time to play with Teddy. When it comes out I most likely will get one. And remember, it's in the prototypical stage now, the final product may look different, the final release is still at least a year off now, so we'll just have to see what happens. I'm excited about it. Everyone's complained in the past that Teddy Ruxpin has failed long term in the marketplace, and now you're saying you hope this one fails? Really? Come on everyone, show Teddy some love. And if Ken Forsse was so against the idea of LCD eyes and such, you'd think Jan Forsse would be too, but she must not object to it otherwise it wouldn't have them. Though WCT may be open to suggestions, I highly doubt they'll make drastic changes to Teddy Ruxpin now, further changes will delay Teddy Ruxpin's release, do you want that? Do you? As long as WCT execute this release well and it's marketed well, then I think it might be a success. There are far bigger problems in this world than the design of a children's toy, so let's try and accept it for what it is and move on.

There are far bigger problems in this world than the design of a children's toy, so let's try and accept it for what it is and move on. Do I want the release of the toy to be late? If it meant there would be improvements, absolutely. It takes time to make quality things, the original Teddy Ruxpin was in development for around 2 years before he was officially released. It is better to wait for something good, than to rush to make something poor. There are are bigger problems in the world, but this is a forum for discussing a toy and related merchandise to that toy. Not a place for discussing world issues. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and while things did get a bit too heated, the discussion itself isn't out of place. It is to be expected when the toy we all love is cheapened and changed so drastically.

Very well, but the thing is, it'll take WCT less time to develop this version than it took Worlds Of Wonder, one reason for this is because the stories have already been scripted and recorded, so they don't need to do that again. Obviously more work needs to be done to finalise the product, but they've obviously got the basic prototype ready now. If you look for pictures of prototypes of the original from the 80s, you'll see that they look different to the final product, perhaps WCT will ditch the button up jacket for the original vest, or maybe they won't, who knows. He's not the prettiest thing you've ever seen, and I kind of do hope they fix his ears and hair, and the nose could maybe more closely resemble the original, but other than that I'm not too disappointed so far. If everyone else wants to E-mail WCT with your feedback then go ahead, but I don't plan to at this point. I doubt they're going to change to mechanical eyes at this stage, they've probably spent a lot of time and effort on them. The backlash has been strong, particularly on YouTube and this forum, maybe they'll change their minds, but I'd be somewhat surprised if they did. Every product that's been around for years and years goes through changes. I mean, Apple developed the Mac in 1984, and look at how much it's evolved and changed over the past 32 years, Furby has changed, Cabbage Patch Kids have changed, many other toy lines that have been produced over the past century have changed over time, so, I'm afraid Teddy needs to change too. And I didn't say this forum was for discussing world issues, but I just think that perhaps some people were getting far too worked up about what is, in the really big grand scheme of things, nothing. Sure, we all love Teddy Ruxpin, very much, but we want to see Teddy succeed no matter what, don't we? At least they've hopefully kept the classic stories inteact, OK, they may need to edit them, particularly The Airship because the stories don't come with physical books anymore, but the spirit of Teddy Ruxpin will probably always be the same for eternity.

What about the eye colour? I don't think it will take long to simply change the colour from blue to brown. Brown eyes would make him look at least a little better.

I'm breaking my silence on the issue a little bit with this... I won't speak for anyone else. However - as, certainly, the moderator of the largest Teddy Ruxpin community on the internet - I have never heard from them. A question, to ask for a suggestion, nor even an email saying "Hey! We're launching this today." Take that for what it's worth.
