I had voiced my opinion concerning Teddy's eyes in response to the videos posted here from Toy Fair inviting feedback, I noted that IMHO the eyes of this new Teddy ought follow the original design as it was the animatronics that made Teddy as popular as he was, and the I felt LCD eyes could make him seem sort of creepy. Well this photo and another posted here seem to confirm my suppositions. Quite honestly this effort seems to stray far from the original WoW Teddy and for that matter all subsequent efforts to now. Hasbro and after might have been miniature Teddies, but they were still Teddy. This guy just doesn't look right.

Why did they change him so much?... I'm really sad... I was so happy, but now... this... is not right. What they did to Teddy is not right. This is the antiTeddy, may I say.

He's... actually kind of cute. The only part I have an issue with is his eyes.

Look guys, they're pretty far into this. They'll take suggestions, yes, but not ones that want them to take him backwards. It's pretty obvious from the video that they did in fact look at all the old things because they're still there. There is respect, but change is needed in order to progress. You might not like the eyes, but they're necessary changes to keep him relevant.

And still, the new clothing is disgusting!!

It is far too late for that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=phAgJlYJnVIYou see? I told you this new one would ruin Teddy Ruxpin! I saw this video on Adoptafurby forum. I will copy my post from there to here. "I don't mind about the app, although I think you should not have to have the app to play with Teddy. Just like Furby Connect, he is too app-dependent. I hate the eyes. Although, if you have read my opinions on the new Furbies, this should not come as a surprise. It seems true animatronics are slowly disappearing and being replaced with LCD. Even Disney is using projected faces on their animatronics! As someone who loves animatronics, this is really disappointing. When I saw Furby with LCD eyes, it did not seem out of place (although I hated it too). Furby is (or was) an electronic pet, the eyes reminded me of Tamagotchi and LCD was where electronic pets started. On Teddy Ruxpin, however, LCD eyes just do not fit. And as with every toy of today's generation, they have cheapened him. As time went by, Teddy's once beautifully realistic (and painstakingly programmed with 1980s technology) animation became simple and cheap. But in this newest version, they have gone as low as I thought was possible. Even Furby Connect has mechanical eyes that blink, in addition to the LCD eyes. But no, this Teddy only moves his mouth. Instead, choppy and stupid looking animated eyes give the illusion of "blinking", which takes the realism out completely. The least they could have done was add the plastic eyelid piece. They say this is "new technology", but I say the original is far superior in both looks and engineering. We are in 2016, and they couldn't even give him truly blinking eyes. A step back, if you ask me."

Thankfully, it looks like they keep the original content. No stupid pop culture references.
At least they had enough respect to leave the content as is. Unlike Hasbro.
But the design is ugly, ugly, ugly! And the eyes are terrible!

AlchemyII is Ken no longer, but it is the representatives of his Estate and his beneficiaries. I'd like to think that their primary concern would be the protection of his vision. Who knows though?
That said, looking at this prototype makes me think that the designers ar Wicked Cool Toys are too deeply into the tech bag to step back and consider just where the target market for Teddy Ruxpin might lie. I'm an admitted old foggie who was one of those parents of 1985 with a child fascinated by Teddy Ruxpin. And its those kids and their memories of the Teddy Ruxpin that they had or desired to have that are today's parents who will be making choices and buys in the toy market. Today's parents are certainly attracted by computer technology. But just implementing an app into a toy is not enough to make it stand out in today's toy market. And more significantly, it will do nothing to trigger memories or emotions. That's really the factor here that would make Teddy stand out for those parents and differentiate him from the thousands of other gadget toys out there that implement computer technology, app interface, etc. etc. But to create that buzz with today's parents, Teddy first and foremost has to trigger fond memories of a long lost Teddy Ruxpin from the 1980s. And quite honestly the prototype in the photos here just seems to miss the mark. The company might overcome this with a large and costly marketing strategy aimed at appealing to those same memories and emotions that could be tapped more cheaply with an offering that more closely tracks the look of the original. But Wicked Cool Toys just doesn't seem to be a company that operates in that fashion.
I truly so hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me that this could be one more march down a road of reintroduction that will lead to a dead end.

Tbh I hope Ruxpin fails and they realize what they're doing wrong... I really don't like this idea...

Absolutely agree, late2theparty.
Honestly, I hope the new Teddy will fail just like the BackPack Toys one (which was superior anyways).
I really don't want to see a Grubby. And I certainly do not want to see a Mother Goose.
