When I was a kid I got a doll with a tape player inside of her for Christmas. She came with a tape about safety that told you how to call 911 and don't talk to strangers and all that jazz. I don't think it was a story, but it was just these kids talking and singing about safety. I know that Cricket is a tape player and I really want her too, but I don't think this is Cricket because all the Cricket tapes I've heard on Youtube are just one kid talking. This was a group of kids. I loved this doll and I played her a lot until she finally started sounding like she was singing under water, so Mom tossed her, which was sad because she probably just needed a new battery. I've thought about her for years and I've been trying to find out about her ever since I discovered online forums and groups. I've asked on doll forums, bear forums, and 80s toys facebook groups, and nobody has been able to tell me. I really hope you guys can tell me who she is so I can have my childhood doll back. Thanks.

I love that Julie commercial, but that's not the doll I had. I watched a vid of someone playing with a Jill doll and that's sort of close, but I don't remember my doll encouraging you to talk back and speaking based on what you say. The way I remember it, you just listened to the tape. Do the Jill tapes have several kids' voices or just one?

I'm afraid I have no idea - I was always more interested in plush animals when I was a kid, so I never had any of the talking dolls that were available.

Until I joined this forum, I didn't even know there was a talking Mother Goose and talking Mickey Mouse similar to Teddy Ruxpin, let alone any knock-offs or other talking dolls.

The Cricket and Corky doll are just uber creepy to me. So is Julie somewhat, but not near the extent of the former two.

Retrobear, Are you referring to Susie Scribbles?

I don't think so. I have her brother Skippy Scribbles and he has an arm that sticks out all weird so he can draw. She didn't have that, it was just a tape. I'm pretty sure her mouth moved and probably her eyes, not sure as I have no eyesight, and I think her head might have moved as well. I'm wondering now if the tape was meant to go with this doll or if she was a Cricket or one of the others that just had another tape stuck in her. If this will help, I got her in 1992 or 1993, but she could have come from a yard sale so she could be older.
