It's really interesting to see what people's favourite version of Teddy Ruxpin is. We've all grown up with him in various versions or collected the later versions, if we're old enough to have been kids when the original came out, or had the WoW/Playskool Teddy II. It just goes to show that Teddy is here to stay. AND, we're all mature enough to not have pages-long arguments over which one is better. I think that that's one of the marvellous things about both the franchise and this fandom. Clearly Teddy's had an influence on us all!

I agree. The franchise is old enough and big enough that everybody has their preference, whether it's the tv show, the WoW Teddy I, WoW/Playskool Teddy II, Yes! Teddy III, Backpack Teddy IV or the animatronic movie. Plus the fandom is huge too, so there's a lot of fans of our dearly loved Illiop, his friends and their adventures. And, I also agree that we're mature enough that we don't disolve into debates on which is better.

Agreed! Haha, this has been one of the nicest fandoms I've come across in a while. I think we can all agree that Teddy holds a dear place in the heart, especially your first one, whichever one that is!
I find the smaller Teddys to be darn cute, but I prefer the larger WoW Teddys. Those were the ones I grew up with, so they look more "natural" just because I'm used to them. The books are unfortunate though. I hated that they had so few words in them. I hear the later books have the story actually written out? That's awesome.

Yeah, books like "Wooly and the Giant Snowzos", "Tweeg Gets the Tweezles" and other later ones had the text written out, including lyrics to the songs.

Yep. It was a shock for me reading my cousin's 'The Airship' book. For the longest time, I thought the WoW tapes were far shorter than the Playskool ones.

I can imagine. Though, if you really think about it, the Teddy Ruxpin stories, at least the WoW and Playskool ones are about 15 minutes each, with "The Missing Princess" being 20 minutes because of the PSA at the end of it. So, that makes them the length of each chapter of one of the old movie serials. Of course, half-hour tv shows are actually about 19 to 22 minutes without commercials. Including Teddy Ruxpin.

I think that this perfectly describes the phenomenon that applies to whichever kind you had, or still have. What you describe is the opposite, for me - I find the "Teddy II" design to be more "natural", myself, haha.

Regardless of the generation, they're all part of the Alchemy II family.

Same. Apparently, the Yes! Teddy III is the black sheep of the family. At least according to certain people on this board, but I won't name names. You know who you are. Lol. Looking at all the pictures at the start of the post, Teddy's head didn't really change all that much, even when Yes! Entertainment gave him a costume change. It's got the same shape and size, and even with the costume change, you can tell it's Teddy just by looking at his face.

^ Just being slightly pedantic, here (I hope you don't mind! ), but Teddy III's head does have a small seam that's visible on his forehead, though, and his ears are ever-so-slightly different (they're a bit fox-like in how they're attached). I think that the most drastic changes came from the BackPack Toys version, myself! Teddy I, II, and to some degree III, all have this quite unique quality in that they look like they're living creatures even though they're obviously toys. As for Teddy IV, by virtue of his much shorter fur, very pronounced forehead seam (seemingly caused by attaching the hair on the top of his head in a different way to Teddy I and II, having compared them in person; I'd guess it's the same reason for Teddy III having this facial seam, too), smaller amount of top-of-head hair, larger and closer-together eyes, and slightly different proportions to the previous three models, Teddy IV looks toy-like, instead, and doesn't strike me with the same feeling of "He's alive!" that the others hit me with.

Hmm, so then:
Teddy I - the eldest of the family and the one everyone else gets compared to Teddy II - second oldest and the one into a lot of the older stuff (I think this because his tapes are more like 8-tracks which came before cassettes) Teddy III - the 'wild child' if you will, going against tradition Teddy IV - the youngest of the family and the one who's into all things modern, what with him having a digital cassette in place of regular tapes

Lol. That is the best analogy ever. Does that mean Grubby is a cousin or an uncle?

I like to think of Grubby as the brother from a different mother. They do have the same dad after all.

I was trying to get an "Uncle Grubby" reference in there, but brother works too. Lol. Definitely a good analogy though.

Well, Teddies II, III, and IV could consider him as Uncle Grubby, being younger than Teddy I.
