The lines are just not as smooth as they are in Teddy. TJ looks... I don't know... I want to say unfinished. Gabby, well, let's just not go there with the Hell Spawn of talkers. Teddy had a polished, finished look to him. My niece got a TJ for Christmas one year and kind of frowned at it for a bit before blurting in a cute 3 year old way, "This is not like Auntie's bear!" At which point she threw it across the room and threw a tantrum.
Heh, smart kid ^_^

Very smart kid.
You just can't get any cuter than our Teddy.

Wow. I don't remember the Gabby Bear. I remember when Playskool released their Teddy, there was that "TV Teddy" bear that came out...I forget where he came from, but even at seven years old I remember thinking: "What a rip-off!" Needless to say, it didn't last long.
The TJ Bearytales just annoys me. Nothing can replace the original.
Power to the Ruxpin!

Consider yourself lucky. If you want to subject yourself to the horror, you can do an archive search on the TRFAQ, and the earliest entry has the image. It's in the Trivia section.
I remember that! Well, only after a quick Google session.
I think we're all in agreement that Teddy did it first, and he also did it the best.

I have seen Gabby in pictures and he looks like "Gabbo" from The Simpsons. At least, Teddy was looking like a friend and not a "robo-bear"

What those manufacturers didn't seem to realize is that it's not the fact that it's a talking bear that attracts all the attention or the desire to own one. It's the fact that it's Teddy Ruxpin: a friend, a comfort, a great story teller with a kind face and a voice to match.
Imitators beware: Until you come up with something like Teddy and not infringe on copyright somehow, you'll never get the sales ^_^

^ Agreed whole-heartedly.
What sets Teddy apart from all the others, for me at least, is Phil Baron's godlike voice. Mr. Forsse (I can never spell his name right) couldn't have chosen a better VA for Teddy.
The first WoW tape I ever purchased was "Teddy Sings Love Songs." When Mr. Baron started singing "When I Fall in Love," it was probably the only time I ever thought a stuffed animal was hot. Mr. Baron has a drop dead gorgeous and sexy voice, and his wife is extremely lucky to have snagged him. And when he and Will Ryan start harmonizing with each other, it sends shivers down my spine.
If a guy ever sang like that to me, I'd melt into a puddle of goo.
Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates the romantic themes in TR's repeteoire. Since the age of 2 I've loved "Grubby's Romance" and it's by far my favorite storyline of both the Adventure Series and TV show.... so much that I've got a whole section of the site dedicated to it in the works. I certainly wish the girls I've dated in the past were such die-hard romantics... I've run across too many Eleanor Tweeg's I guess

Well, sometimes you have to sift through the rocks to find a diamond. Too bad the diamond is often really well hidden.

So true... and when/if you do find it, often life has it's way of getting in the way... sometimes the girl of your dreams gets a dream job and moves away or decides to give it one more try with the ex, or even turns into a butterfly It's nice to know romantics still exist out there anyway... I was begining to think women had all went the way of Eleanor at this late date... hearing otherwise gives me slight hope.

I am one of the world's greatest "hopeless romantic". I need to have a story with a little bit of fluff to it. I mean, if it's all action and explosions with not spark of romance in it, what's the point? Hell, even Chronicles of Riddick had a hint of romance (Kira and Riddick). So why not a children's show like Teddy Ruxpin. Romance makes it more human. And kids have to learn sometimes why some guy or girl looks at the opposite and looks all goofy and such.
