I don't want to step on toes. Do the makers of the show mind fanfiction? I come from the HP universe where fanfics run rampant everywhere!
I'd be giving the show a more adult take, thats just how I write, and I already have an outline in the works.

I don't think you'll find many fans of a more "adult" AdvRux. Mind you, that all depends on what you mean by "adult". If you mean OOC actions and language, yeah, that won't fly with us or the creators, but the creators won't make too much of a fuss about it. If you mean something a little more modern, in lines with todays cartoons and themes, go for it.
And do check out the FanFiction section for this forum. Cass and I have already posted our fics ^_^

I mean adult as in potential violence and death, not G-rated.
Thanks, I'll check out the fics here and see what flies!

I, personally, am not opposed to a more mature take on the TR universe. I, myself, have a rather darker take on Quellor planned for one my my fics as soon as I get rid of this bout of writer's block that's taken over my muses.
Violence and death can have a place in fiction, as long as it's relevent to the story and not just there 'just because'.

Gratuitous anything in a fic just for the sake of it never works in my opinion. I'm a long standing member of FanFiction.net and MediaMinder.org and I have read countless stories on those sites where I have to wonder at the motivation of the writer for the actions the characters take. Some stories it's like, ooo, fight scene, must have one, and then there it is right where it makes the least sense. Same with sex or death. One second the characters are talking about a very important event, then next one is either killed or the characters end up in bed.
Actions and conversations should always advance a story.
So for death and violence in a TR fic: go for it so long as it advances the story. I may chase after you if you kill our beloved Illiop, but it is your story and if it works into the vision you have, none of us have the right to tell you otherwise.
So this will be, what, the third TR fic in existance out there? (I am not counting You-Know-Who since her works are no longer worth mentioning). More TR stories!! More!! MORE!!

No worries, I have no plans to kill off our favorite Illiop or any other characters at this point, but that's not to say I don't have other plans for him.

Won't kill any Illiops. Can't promise anything else though. I actually AM on fanfiction.net, though I do my very very best in much of my writing to make every action, every bit of violence or death (or sex) advance the story to whatever conclusion I'm trying to come to.
Though sometimes I can get carried away. Example: in one story the only way to round of the story was A: kill my hero or B: put him through some horrible trials and suffering, and since I wanted a 'happy ending' no matter what I couldn't kill my hero. So it ended happy but it took awhile to get to 'happy'.

In my book I actually brought my main character to the point of death twice. Turned him into a brooding and suicidal type, but it worked for the story and advanced the story at just the right pace because of it. But I can't bring myself to go so dark for my fanfics. My own creations, I drive them to the looney bin myself and sign them in. Established toons from another creator, Bellevue is just not on the route. Now my problem with AdvRux fics is I am very partial to our favorite Illiop. Teddy has been the only toon my mind wanders back to when everything else fails to inspire. So anything that's out of character for him (suicidal, depressed, angsty)... well... let's just say there has to be a good reason for any of it to happen. Not to discourage anyone from going down that route though. Go ahead, just warn me first. strangeseraph - Can't wait to read your fic. More fics on AdvRux are always welcome, there are so few of them out there.

I do not want to discourage you from posting fiction, but you need to read the rules of the forum. If your fiction is not "G rated" I strongly suggest that you do not post it here but stick to Fanfiction.net. If you want reviews then you need to link it up with a disclaimer stating that your fiction is rated as such. The owner of this forum has particularities about content here. If you find them stifling, or too strict, you need to take your case up with him.

Not going to post it here, it's up on fanfiction.net now anyways. I don't know what it'll eventually be rated but I put it as Teen rated for now, think thats where it will stay. Not much of an audience for Teddy Ruxpin is there?

Hi Strangeseraph,
First off welcome to the forum. I apologize for not welcoming you earlier... busy time for me with work and another web project non-TR related which has unfortunately my full attention at the moment during my rare times of internet usage.
Anyway, the previous posters have pretty much steered you to the right course as far as posting fan fiction here or elsewhere when it comes to copyright implications and what is generally considered in good taste in our community. I personally am a TR traditionalist, and Teddy was built as a children's story. The creator, story and characters are so imaginative that the story couldn't help but also reach an older audience. It is in fact a rare blend of a children's story which branches off into themes adults find entertaining beyond nostalgia.
With that being said, and as Cassia has pointed out, I can't allow anything to be posted here that is beyond a "G" rating. Don't translate that necessarily to movie ratings... but anything a kid old enough to read and comprehend stuff would find offensive, is in stark contrast to what Teddy Ruxpin was meant to be. That you see the characters in a different way is fine for you, but keep in mind these characters, their history and their future belong to their creator. I do not and cannot speak for him, but it's just always something I remind folks who are creating original content with the characters.
Now that your fan fiction questions have been answered, I hope you will stay around the forums to discuss other aspects of TR with us.
Happy Holidays! Josh

Sure thing Josh! I also collect the TR toys (I have two Teddys, one that still works!) and have the episodes of the show, and am glad to be here to talk about all things TR! I come from a very open ended fandom (Harry Potter) where I'm used to posting whatever I want. I've quickly learned that fans of the 80's cartoons I've started to write more of do tend to be traditionalists, I've encountered this before with the Gummi Bears fandom. But I also know that people in these fandoms are quick not only to caution me, but to welcoming me to their world with open arms and I very much appreciate that. Thank you everyone, I'm really glad to be here!

We're happy to have you. Always a good thing when the fanbase grows. At least with our fanbase, you don't have to worry about generation wars like some other 80s franchises.

GI Joe and Transformers come to mind for those wars. Here, we're still pure to the 80s.
