Check out the hilariously bad KO.They didn't even try to disguise the fact that its a KO. I'm fairly certain that they also used the same font on the box that WoW used. If I had the funds, I'd be tempted to try and snag it. I'm happy that the seller isn't trying to pass it off as a genuine Teddy. That microphone is rather spiffy though.

WOW
Everything from the box color to the font color and outline! And look at the TAPE pictured on the box! It's a white cassette with a blue label and black lettering!
I've never seen something like that.
The WoW Teddy Ruxpin box color was always something very special to me. That color always signified everything about Teddy for me. I was a little disappointed when BackPack Toys didn't use it for their box color as well, although the Playskool version hinted at it. The worst abomination was the Yes Entertainment Teddy for changing everything about the character, though I understand why they used primary colors to get children's attention.
Even the kid on the cover bears an eerie resemblance to the young boy pictured holding Teddy Ruxpin on the back of the original WoW box.
Creepy. I wonder if Mr. Forsse has seen this.

Ah, yes, I remember this one from one of my many childhood travels. Dad was stationed in Varona on an exchange program with the military back in 1986. I was walking through one of the many department stores at the time, happily hugging my Teddy Ruxpin, when I saw the display for T.T. (Talking and Twinkling).
I was in shock!
Here I thought Teddy was the only talker and there sat this poorly designed imposter telling stories and singing songs in Italian in a very nasal voice. Now that I think about it, it was a lot like TJ Bearytales's voice, only in Italian.
We moved to BC after that and there he was again, one in French and one in English, but again that annoying nasal voice.
From what I have been able to find, this talker lasted all of 1 year (almost) before dying the death I knew would happen. There were about 150,000 units made in North America and 75,000 in Europe. Currently there is said to only be 18,000 units left world-wide that still function, mind you, with vinyl tapes, I can't see them functioning for much longer.
Cassettes, now there was ever an error in creation.

I don't suppose that there are sound clips of it?
Just goes to prove that it wasn't the technology that made Teddy so special.
Edit: I've saved a copy of the auction site and the pictures therein in case Josh decides to do a knock off section.

I will have to show this to Ken, it is quite amazing, isn't it? I think he spoke of this during one of our visits however, as he mentioned a knock off that I just assumed was Gabby Bear, but this seems much more like what he was talking about. At leats Gabby Bear had the guts to look differently... other than the nasty ears and the creepy blue eyes, this could be Teddy's twin. It would be worth having simply for the camp value, however. And maybe something to target practice with when I can't find TJ Bearytales on any clearance aisles anymore lol.

Awww! Poor TJ Barytales! He can't possibly be as bad as we make him out to be...
Can he?

TJ was evil with the voice to match. Saw it in the store the first time, a few years back, and I immediately said to myself, "Teddy Ruxpin knockoff."
I still remember the smile I got from the lady next to me when I muttered that. Guess she was thinking the same thing.

There's a humor fanfic or fanart in there somewhere.
I admit, I've had several art bunnies spawned from all these KOs. You should totally make a section dedicated to these knockoffs, Josh, if only to raise awareness of them.

This is a really good lesson that you should never settle for cheap knockoffs when you got geniune Teddy Ruxpin merchandise on offer. PS: JOSH! I send you a couple of messages to you over a certain time. Get back to me, man! O.O

While we're on the subject of knockoffs, does anyone know what this monstrosity is supposed to be?

That's not a KO. It's an official plushie version of Teddy.

Really? My bad then. I've never seen a Teddy like that before. How does he work? (The tag on the back says something about batteries.)

This is the Little Bopper Teddy Ruxpin. Cute thing, I have one sitting on my desk at work. You put in four AA batteries, turn it on, and he dances to whatever sounds is around him. It's fun and a great stress reliever to see him dance when things get too hectic around here.

Oh, that's the Little Bopper? He looks very similar to the plushie.

lol There was something about the face that was a little...shocking at first. But having just seen the live action special on YouTube, his look makes way more sense now.
